Writing Substack Entries About My Writing Career

Some writers I know have made me aware of Substack and given me an idea of how it might be used. 

I have considered using it to try to recount the poetry life that became a main focus for me after I retired from my final technical job - writing manuals for medical professionals about Medtronic implantable devices.

My poetry life has consisted of taking poetry writing classes, participating in poetry open mics, co-administering a Facebook poetry group (2016-2020), and during the same years hosting a monthly coffee shop reading series.

Mainly, I've written a lot of poetry, of which I've posted more than 1200 draft pieces on a Google blog, which to date has 180,767 hits - some from actual readers.

I mostly stopped reading at open mics in about 2018.

I stopped posting on the blog after January 2021, but the blog is still getting hits. And I've just posted on it eleven twenty-poem selections from the Yokel Song collections.

So far I have always stopped short of actually posting essays like this one on Substack, because it feels too flaunty. I am a drag artist, but mostly just for myself. I myself am my poety's fit audience.

Writing About Auto-eroticism

My poetry is a celebration of auto-eroticism. I get immense pleasure from looking at my own body, especially my feet. My self-pleasure is chemical--it makes me feel excited and happy every day, and I believe that I partly owe to it my good health. When I was a child, I was embarrassed by my feet and tried to hide them whenever possible. I've come to believe that my childhood hatred of my feet was an internalized social imperative to deny prettiness (femininity) in myself, and that this denial prevented me until well into adulthood from enjoying the prettiness of my feet and being sexually stimulated by them. Printable Versions of the Selected Yokel Song Collections

I want to have eleven (well, thirteen--no, fourteen) more-concise representations of the complete Yokel collections. The lengths will be from 24 to 36 pages (well, 20 to 52, I guess), so they'll be cheaper to print. They need to be almost perfect editorially. Selected Trans Yokel Songs and Selected Pretty Yokel Songs are on the long side--thirty-six or 40 pages. But now I've made separate End Times volumes of from each, rescuing many songs that had been excluded. The Yokel's End Times Footsie Drag is 52 pages long. I would like to be able to print five or ten copies of each and give them away. They should have a less-than-ten-dollar unit cost. The collections are designed to be read from beginning to end. The reader should be able to get through one of them in less than an hour. They are arranged/not arranged consecutively by composition date. A Signal Day Between Now and Paradise,

Every day I think about my Signal friend. My Signal friend is the source of all my Yokel energy. So, I made up a song, and Signal-texted it to my Signal friend.      One of these days and it won't be long      Pretty soon you'll be dancing      You'll call my name and I'll be gone      Pretty soon you'll be dancing      Call your friends all over      Petty soon they'll be dancing      Call your friends all over      Pretty soon you'll be dancing My Signal friend responded so sweetly, Signal-texting that the song consoled her for a friend who fell and was injured and must soon die-- because pretty soon they'll be dancing! So, I know that my Signal friend and I still have our signals straight. Or, at least, we did on the day of our Signal chat, which was three days ago--haven't heard from my Signal friend since. Makes me fear that all is over between my Signal...
